World association of ugly people is an association for ugly people or people who feel their self ugly... is it right ??
Based on wikipedia, my favourite site, World association of ugly people is an organization dedicated to fighting for the recognition of ugly people, in a society that places a high value on physical beauty. The group's motto is "A person is what he is and not what he looks like".
In the small town of Piobbico in the Marche region of Italy there is a festival for ugly person(Festival of the Ugly) and the winner become president of the club. The festival held every first Sunday of September, every year.
Actually Europe have alot of unique festivals or championships. Last month I watched television and there is a news of 'Lempar Sepatu' -- in bahasa Indonesia- championship (I forgot what was name in English) in Germany if I'm not wrong. It's so funny and so creative I thought.
Back to the festival of Ugly, I think this is a good idea. Because in Europe especially, they give a high value for something beautiful (I think it's same with other countries).But sometimes there is no place for people who they called ugly person. And one question from my mind, what is the definiton of ugliness, there is any standard for something or people so they can judge them as an ugly thing or ugly person. ?? Is it the person with small nose is ugly... or person with big nose is beautiful .. ??
When we look at the mirror... there is no one as an ugly person and no one as a beautiful person... because everybody, every single person, have the most beautiful side and the ugliest side inside their self.
I'm totally agree with the motto -- above. Don't look something just from the cover. :)
* O ya, when I read this article, I was remember the story of The Hunchback of Notre Dame -- Quasimodo as the winner of the Festival of Ugly.
